Oban Continues Exploring Outside Kuno

Oban has slipped outside Kuno National Park once again and was spotted fifteen kilometres away from the National park.
Less than two weeks ago he was tranquilised and bought back to Kuno on 6th April 2023 after five days of adventure exploring villages and farms surrounding Kuno National Park. This time he ventured much further away and was spotted resting in Jorai village in Bairaad tehsil of Shivpuri District approximately 15-20 km from the National Park.
Fitted with Radio Collar, a team of park officials is continuously monitoring his movement to ensure his safety outside the protected area.  The forest team is also sensitizing the villagers, making them aware of the feline's presence so that villagers can maintain a safe distance from Oban.
As per forest officials, they will not rescue the animal this time as frequent tranquilization might pose a risk to the Cheetah. Manual efforts would be made to bring the Cheetah back to safety instead.
Oban is five years old and is one of the first eight Cheetahs that were brought from Namibia in September 2022 as a part of the Cheetah Reintroduction program. Kuno National Park has a core area of 748 square kilometres and an adjoining buffer area of 487 square kilometres.
